21.02.2026 - 16:30On February 23, Slovakia will suspend electricity supplies to Ukraine if Kyiv does not resume oil deliveries to Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico wrote this on his Facebook page.
“If on Monday the Ukrainian president does not restore oil deliveries to Slovakia, on that same day I will demand that the relevant Slovak companies stop supplying emergency electricity to Ukraine,” the politician wrote.
He added that since the start of the war Slovakia has been helping Ukraine: about 180,000 Ukrainians are in the country, humanitarian aid is being provided, and joint government meetings have been organized.
According to Fico, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy does not want to understand a peaceful approach and is behaving maliciously toward Slovakia.
“First he stopped gas supplies to Slovakia and caused us losses of €500 million a year. Now he has stopped oil supplies, which is causing us additional losses and logistical difficulties,” Fico said.
He also stressed that, given Zelenskyy’s unacceptable behavior toward Slovakia, he considers it absolutely right that he refused to involve Slovakia in a new €90 billion military loan for Ukraine.
It is noted that Slovakia is currently the largest supplier of electricity to Ukraine. In February, about 50% of Ukraine’s total electricity imports passed through Slovakia.
Earlier, Budapest blocked the allocation of a €90 billion EU loan to Kyiv until oil transit to Hungary via the Druzhba pipeline is restored.
