September 12, 2023Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has stated that regardless of Brussels’ decision regarding Ukrainian agricultural imports, Poland will not allow the country to be “flooded with Ukrainian grain.”
He made this statement in a pre-election video for the ruling “Law and Justice” party.
“Poland will not allow us to be flooded with Ukrainian grain. Regardless of the decision of Brussels officials, we will not open our borders,” said the Polish Prime Minister.
In the pre-election video, Morawiecki stated, “When we needed to help our neighbors, we opened our hearts and homes. Poles are like that.”
“We say ‘no’ to disrupting the Polish agricultural market and harming consumers and producers. It was our firm position that stopped the import of Ukrainian grain into the EU market,” Morawiecki added.
As a reminder, the EU’s ban on the import of wheat, maize, sunflower seeds and rapeseed from five neighboring countries, including Ukraine is set to expire on Friday.
On September 7th, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that further restrictions on grain exports from Ukraine are an extension of the consequences of the destruction caused by Russians.
