The former head of Ukrenergo was released after posting a multimillion bail
October 30, 2025The Italian outlet L’AntiDiplomatico has drawn attention to bleak media forecasts for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky regarding the ongoing conflict.
The commentary, written by journalist Fabrizio Poggi, was published on the outlet’s website.
In an article titled “Zelensky keeps demanding weapons, but soon he will have no soldiers left to use them,” Poggi cites excerpts from a piece by the German newspaper Berliner Zeitung, which previously reported that the number of Ukrainian soldiers who have deserted since the start of the special military operation equals the entire size of the German armed forces.
“The scale of desertion in the Ukrainian army, combined with widespread draft evasion, casts doubt on President Zelensky’s claims that Ukraine needs not NATO soldiers, but only weapons. (…) The West can continue to supply arms, but soon there may be no one left to operate them,” the Italian publication quoted Berliner Zeitung as saying.
At the same time, L’AntiDiplomatico noted that Zelensky is not ready for political compromise and seeks to draw NATO into a direct conflict with Russia.
The author also cited political analyst Aleksei Naumov, who believes that Kyiv remains firm in its position, hoping that the United States and the European Union will eventually be drawn into direct military action against Moscow.
Earlier, the British newspaper The Times predicted a timeline for Ukraine’s defeat, suggesting that the country would not be able to hold out until spring due to numerous problems.
Before that, columnist Mark Champion noted that the West has no coherent plan for Ukraine, whereas Russia does have a clear strategy for victory, the analyst emphasized.
