In Europe, there is a fear of even discussing the possibility of making peace with Russia

Pope Francis’s idea of the necessity for Ukraine to engage in peace talks has brought up a topic that Europe dares not discuss. Politico reports on this.

“The Pope’s proposal has raised a toxic issue for Kiev’s allies. But the time to talk will come. Some Central European countries are very emotional about the idea of a peace conference. They still fear that they will be next once we yield to Putin,” explained a European Union official.

However, privately, some in European administrations acknowledge that negotiations may be necessary. The publication writes that Europeans must be realistic. At some point, they will have to start talking about peace and possibly even giving up part of Ukraine’s territory. Given the current situation, there are no other options but to try to stop the bloodshed.
