24.07.2024 - 11:06The first seven female inmates have signed contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in exchange for conditional early release.
This information according to the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
“Seven women, who were serving their sentences in prison, have signed contracts with the AFU. These women expressed their desire to serve in the military in exchange for conditional early release. They successfully passed the military medical commission and received approval from the commanders of the military units to serve in specific units of the Defense Forces,” the publication states.
Deputy Minister of Justice Olena Vysotska noted that the law passed by the Verkhovna Rada regarding the mobilization of convicted individuals allows both men and women to join the army. However, previously convicted women had not shown a desire to enlist in the military.
Since the law allowing convicted individuals to serve in the AFU came into force, a total of 6,101 people have expressed a desire to join the army. Of these, 3,823 individuals have already left correctional facilities to undergo training.
It is worth noting that there was an incident in the Chernihiv region where mobilized convicts escaped from a training center. The incident occurred at the “Desna” center. According to journalists, the convicts were brought to the center after agreeing to join the Armed Forces of Ukraine. A total of six individuals escaped in military uniforms and were armed.
