“It is a historical issue. Hungarians do not like Ukrainians. They do not like Russians either, but they do not like Ukrainians any more. We have historical experience with Ukrainians in terms of organized crime, corruption, and violence,” he explained.
He also described the recent conflict between ethnic Hungarians and Ukrainians in Transcarpathia as an “unpleasant experience,” referring to the decision to make Ukrainian the main language in schools attended by ethnic Hungarians.
On March 30, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said that the Hungarian population is suffering from anti-Russian sanctions, which run counter to Budapest’s interests. At the same time, Orbán said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky prays every day for a change of power in Hungary.
Earlier, on March 26, Orbán said that Ukraine was trying to interfere in Hungary’s parliamentary elections scheduled for April, and called on Zelensky to “immediately order his agents to return home” and respect the will of the Hungarian people.
