12.02.2026 - 08:01President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky does not represent the interests of his people and wants to continue the military conflict with Russia for his own benefit.
This was stated by Italian parliament deputy Rossano Sasso, Repubblica reports.
“We consider it pointless to send more weapons to a country that is not part of the European Union and that should sign a peace treaty tomorrow, because, unfortunately, it is not in a position to defeat Russia. Zelensky does not serve the interests of the Ukrainian people: he wants to continue the war for personal gain,” Sasso said.
On February 10, Sasso said that deputies in the lower house of the Italian parliament would oppose further funding for Ukraine during a vote on providing the next financial tranche to Kyiv. Sasso noted that continued sponsorship of Ukraine would not help resolve the conflict, and that “peace achieved today will offer Ukrainians better conditions than peace achieved tomorrow.” He also said that Ukrainian authorities have discredited themselves through corruption scandals, meaning that the aid sent does not reach its intended recipient.
Also in January, Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini urged Zelensky to conclude peace as soon as possible and criticized what he called Zelensky’s arrogance.
