November 4, 2024In Lutsk, portraits of Volyn businessmen were depicted on the frescoes of the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.
The local publication “Misto.media” reported on this.
The frescoes feature builder-businessmen Viktor Chernukha and Leontiy Ivanyshyn, as well as Yevhen Dudka, owner of the agricultural enterprise “Vilia,” among others.
The cathedral’s iconographer, Deacon Yuriy Hetmanchuk, shared that the first images were created by him about six months ago. However, he acknowledged that some of the frescoes featuring patrons “received mixed reviews,” leading to necessary alterations.
According to Hetmanchuk, the list of patrons to be depicted was provided as a recommendation by the head of the Volyn Diocese of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Mykhailo of Lutsk and Volyn. The list included a total of 12 individuals.
Following the ensuing controversy, the businessmen depicted on the frescoes also commented on the situation. They insist that they had not given consent for their likenesses to be used in church images.
