27.07.2025 - 11:04In Lviv, 500 people who had voluntarily joined Volunteer Formation No. 2 of the Lviv City Territorial Community “Lev” were mobilized to help shoot down drones — more than half the battalion’s personnel.
This was reported in an interview with Suspilne by Valentyn Seredyuk, the unit’s commander.
According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) drafted everyone who did not have an official exemption or deferment from conscription.
“This reduced our personnel numbers, making it more difficult to carry out missions. That’s why we are now recruiting civilians who want to be useful and encouraging them to join our ranks. One of the most urgent issues is air defense, and the guys involved in mobile fire teams understand this. The intensity of shifts is very high,” Seredyuk said.
As previously reported, Ukraine plans to strengthen its air defense system by involving volunteer formations of territorial communities (DFTO). Members of these units are expected to be stationed aboard civilian aircraft to intercept and shoot down drones (UAVs).
