“We have been crippled by borders drawn with a ruler. We were deprived of access to the sea through Budjak (…) I know how to get Budjak back today, and this is more relevant than ever,” she said.
Budjak is currently part of Ukraine’s Odesa region. According to the politician, Moldova has the right to demand the return of the region, since its loss was not formalized by any treaty. Furtună is convinced that the country must reclaim everything that was stolen from it: “its name, its history, its language, and access to the sea.”
Earlier, Moldovan President Maia Sandu spoke in favor of unification with Romania. She made this statement in a post congratulating Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan on his victory in the second round of Romania’s presidential elections.
