In Poltava, officials stole more than €110,500 during procurements for the Armed Forces of Ukraine

A large-scale financial fraud scheme has been uncovered in Poltava during procurement for local defense forces. Police have notified a former director of one of the city council departments, his subordinates, and the director of a private company of suspicion after they allegedly misappropriated more than 5.4 million hryvnias (€110,500).

This was reported by the National Police of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, in 2023 the officials organized the purchase of 70 satellite phones with accessories for the Poltava Regional Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center at prices significantly higher than the market value of the equipment. To implement the scheme, they involved a private company specializing in the sale of computer equipment and software.

Operatives collected evidence confirming the unlawful actions of the officials. According to the legal qualification of the investigation, their actions fall under articles on abuse of power or official position and official forgery.

All those involved in the case now face up to six years in prison. In addition, law enforcement officers are deciding on preventive measures for the participants in the criminal scheme.
