09.01.2026 - 08:31Around midnight, a missile strike hit Lviv region. A critical infrastructure facility came under attack.
This was reported on Telegram by Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration.
He added that relevant services are working at the impact site and are determining the nature of the damage. He noted that this is a standard procedure after any missile strike. Initial laboratory tests showed that radiation levels are within normal limits. No exceedance of harmful substances in the air was detected.
Footage of the strike was captured by street surveillance cameras.
During the night, local Telegram channels wrote that the strike was carried out using the “Oreshnik” missile system. The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed this information in the morning.
The ministry’s statement said that overnight, “in response to a terrorist attack” on the residence of the President of the Russian Federation in Novgorod region on the night of December 29, 2025, the Russian Armed Forces carried out a “massive strike with long-range high-precision weapons” launched from land- and sea-based platforms, including the mobile medium-range ground-based missile system “Oreshnik,” as well as strike drones, against critically important targets on Ukrainian territory.
The ministry claims the strike achieved its objectives and hit facilities producing unmanned aerial vehicles that were used in the attack on the residence, as well as energy infrastructure supporting the operation of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex.
The ministry warned that actions by Kyiv similar to those in December “will not go unanswered.” Ukraine, for its part, denies attempting an air strike on the Kremlin leader’s residence.
