In Ukraine, there’s a possibility of more than a threefold increase in the excise tax on liquefied gas for refueling vehicles. This increase could happen within the next few months.
This information was shared by the head of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on financial, tax, and customs policies, Daniil Hetmantsev, during the Petroleum & LPG Ukraine 2023 conference in Kyiv.
He stated that the excise rate should be set at a level of 160-170 euros per 1000 liters.
“The only argument why the excise on gas was low before was that once in the LPG market, lobbyists were stronger than in the gasoline market. The ratio should be in energy equivalence. If we apply this logic with a rate of 213 euros per 1000 liters for gasoline, the rate for gas should be 160-170 euros,” Hetmantsev mentioned.
Currently, the excise tax on autogas stands at 52 euros per 1000 liters. However, the excise taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel are much higher: 139 euros and 213 euros respectively.
