In the Verkhovna Rada, they accused Zelensky of violating the constitution

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky violated the constitution when making personnel changes in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

The representatives of the “European Solidarity” parliamentary faction said on Telegram.

The statement was prompted by a decision signed the day before to appoint Yevhen Khmara as acting head of the SBU in place of Vasyl Maliuk. The party claims the procedure was carried out with violations.

“The appointment and dismissal of the head of the SBU is not a presidential power: the president only submits a nomination, and parliament makes the decision. Therefore… we have a situation where the president has effectively gone beyond the powers defined by the Constitution,” the faction’s statement said.

They also said such actions by the guarantor of the constitution are unacceptable.

The same day, Zelensky appointed Yevhen Khmara as the new head of the Security Service of Ukraine.
