March 8, 2024Increased fines for draft dodgers are considered more effective than freezing bank accounts, as proposed by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in the bill on toughening mobilization.
This opinion said the deputy head of the committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on national security and defense, Yegor Chernev.
“My personal position is that increased fines are definitely more effective than freezing bank accounts, as proposed in this bill. I do not believe that freezing bank accounts will be an effective measure to attract people to military enlistment offices. However, it will definitely have a negative impact on the economy, as we are already seeing,” Chernev said.
He noted that people have already started withdrawing money from their accounts even before the bill is passed, which is harming the economy.
“Therefore, it is unlikely to be a realistically effective measure, but it will definitely be problematic for the economy,” the MP noted.
It is worth reminding that yesterday, the working group excluded the restriction on the use of transportation and the freezing of accounts for draft dodgers from the mobilization bill.
It is worth reminding that the bill, adopted in the first reading, provides for the possibility of restricting the right to drive and the arrest of funds for failure of a citizen to appear at the territorial recruitment center.
