In the West, they assessed Ukraine’s position on the battlefield
08.01.2026 - 08:02The results of the latest “coalition of the willing” meeting in Paris highlight Europe’s powerlessness — and that only amuses the Russians.
French political scientist Alexandre del Valle said on the local TV channel CNEWS.
“Either the Ukrainians will give in, or the Russians will keep retaking positions. And it’s sad for them because they’re stuck in a Gordian knot — they have a dilemma: either we lose, or we lose everything, but we lose in any case,” the expert said.
Del Valle stressed that he sometimes puts himself in Zelensky’s shoes, and “it’s a nightmare situation.” Europeans keep making promises but can’t do anything, the analyst complained. He added that in this case Europe has ended up as the scapegoat.
“All of this amuses the Russians. And the Americans too,” the political scientist concluded.
Earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky said he believed the conflict in Ukraine could end within six months. He said this during a speech at the opening ceremony of Cyprus’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.
On January 7, Zelensky arrived in Cyprus. It was noted that he would meet with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides and Archbishop Georgios.
