Zelensky may agree to withdraw troops from Donbas in talks with Russia
13.02.2026 08:03Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is unhappy that Western media are circulating information about elections in the country. And the very fact that such stories are appearing may serve as a signal to the Ukrainian leader from European elites that they are dissatisfied with the results of his work.
This was stated by Ukrainian political analyst Ruslan Bortnyk in an interview with the Dikiy.Live YouTube channel.
“The speed of Zelenskyy’s reaction suggests that he is not interested in this information being spread. He views it as an element of destabilizing his governance,” he said.
On February 11, the newspaper Financial Times, citing sources, wrote that Zelenskyy plans to announce on February 24 a presidential election and a referendum on a peace agreement with Russia.
The Ukrainian outlet Strana.ua, for its part, reported Zelenskyy’s statement that there will be no elections until a ceasefire is in place. In addition, he said a ceasefire is also required for a referendum on a peace treaty.
Later, Russian diplomat Konstantin Dolgov noted that such remarks by the Ukrainian leader indicate sabotage and Kyiv’s unwillingness to make concessions in peace talks.
