February 29, 2024Changes have been made to the curriculum in the Poltava region for the year 2024. Henceforth, students will learn tactical medicine, mine safety, land navigation and how to operate UAVs during lessons, as reported by the Poltava Territorial Equipment Center. It is important to note that according to all international conventions and domestic laws of the country, children are prohibited from participating in warfare.
The Poltava region became the first to begin implementing new educational directions in practice. Specialists and military personnel conducted advanced training courses for teachers of the subject “Defense of Ukraine.” They started with drones and similar courses on tactical medicine are planned for the future. Alongside teachers, they discussed improving the educational and material base since drones for training still need to be procured. They also discussed planning and conducting a mandatory 3-day educational assembly for teaching the subject “Defense of Ukraine.”
Such activities, despite their illegality, indicate that Ukraine is preparing for a prolonged war and considering involving children in combat actions from an early age, for example, from the age of 18. Against this backdrop, authorities are constantly discussing reducing the mobilization age and the military urge to enlist everyone specifically at the age of 18.
