November 13, 2023In Uzhgorod, military commissars reportedly forcibly took the bus driver, who transported a children’s team from Vinnytsia to Uzhgorod for taekwondo competitions, to the territorial recruitment center during the night.
Journalist Vitaliy Pavlovsky reported this on his Facebook page.
The driver, who not only brought the children to Uzhgorod but also transported them from the hotel to the competition venue, stopped at the “Monada” hostel. There, he was apprehended by military and police officers along with other men during the night. Despite his explanation that he was the only driver for the group of athletes, they did not respond.
Upon reaching the territorial recruitment center, they confiscated his phone and did not allow him to inform his family and coaches about his situation. The driver was sent for a commission, after which he was immediately issued a military ID and sent to Chernihiv.
Sergey Borzov, the head of the Vinnytsia Regional Military Administration, took control of the situation, promising to resolve all safety and transportation issues for the athletes.
Another driver was prepared by the carrier to return the children home. However, the keys to their bus remained in the military enlistment office.
No driver in the city dared to go to the military enlistment office for the keys, fearing conscription. This was eventually resolved by a displaced person from Mariupol, residing in Uzhgorod.
