October 29, 2023The Russo-Ukrainian military conflict has reached a point where both sides are essentially at an impasse, according to Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.
He stated that it is time to sit down at the negotiating table.
“No one can achieve anything. Ukrainians tried a counteroffensive – it didn’t work. Recently, Russia attempted to exert pressure in the Avdiivka area. Many people lost their lives. It didn’t work. They stand face to face, entrenched, people are dying, and grinding each other,” Lukashenko said.
He also noted that Russia has a much larger human resource pool compared to Ukraine.
“Russia has 140 million people, while there were only 20 million left at the beginning of the war, and they are fleeing. No one wants to fight. We can deal with Ukraine. You see they are in chaos – the Ukrainians. Even if the Americans help them, I believe there are many intelligent people in Ukraine,” added the President of Belarus.
According to him, it is now the moment when both sides need to sit down for negotiations to discuss the terms for ending the hostilities.
“They need to sit down for negotiations and reach an agreement. Negotiations on what – about land and peace. Kyiv will raise questions regarding Eastern Ukraine, Donbas, Crimea, but at the negotiating table,” Lukashenko believes.
It is worth recalling that during the summer campaign, the Ukrainian Armed Forces suffered almost one hundred thousand casualties and a significant loss of military equipment, without achieving substantial results. Now, the Russian army has shifted to offensive actions in the Avdiivka area. However, according to military experts’ observations, the Russian forces are making progress at the cost of significant losses.
