Germany to strip Ukrainian men of military age of automatic temporary protection
20.07.2026 06:32Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said he was stunned by President Volodymyr Zelensky’s decision to dismiss Mykhailo Fedorov from the post of Ukraine’s defense minister, calling the move a serious miscalculation.
He made the remarks in an interview with the German publication Handelsblatt.
“I was shocked,” said the mayor of the Ukrainian capital.
According to Klitschko, such changes in leadership damage Ukraine’s ability to defend itself.
News of Fedorov’s dismissal emerged on July 15. He had served as defense minister for only six months — since January 14, 2026.
According to sources, the reason for the resignation was disagreements between Fedorov and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrsky.
It was previously reported that former Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov may lead the opposition to Zelensky.
