In the West, they ruled out an end to the conflict in Ukraine
08.01.2026 - 18:00The Kremlin’s special representative, Kirill Dmitriev, held talks yesterday in Paris at the U.S. Embassy.
Le Monde reports.
According to the newspaper, the Russian official was seen on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, where the Élysée Palace and the U.S. Embassy are located.
At the same time, the Élysée Palace denied that Dmitriev visited it. It is assumed that Dmitriev may have been received not at the French presidential palace, but at the neighboring U.S. Embassy.
In recent days, Paris has been hosting talks involving the United States, Ukraine, and the so-called “coalition of the resolute.”
The discussions reportedly covered territorial issues (Russia—and, according to media reports, the U.S. as well—are demanding that Kyiv withdraw troops from Donetsk region), as well as security guarantees for Ukraine.
On the U.S. side, the talks involved President Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff, the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and White House official Josh Gruenbaum. It appears Dmitriev held talks with one of them.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the Ukrainian delegation and U.S. representatives in Paris are discussing “the most difficult issues from the basic framework for ending the war,” specifically control over the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and territories.
