MP Bezuhla accused Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Syrskyi of the Patriot system’s defeat in the Dnipropetrovsk region
10.10.2024 - 09:13The Kyiv defense plant “Artem,” which has been periodically subjected to missile attacks, is suspected of embezzling $8.3 million during the production of artillery shells.
This information comes from the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO).
The case is expected to soon proceed to trial.
According to the investigation, in 2017, a foreign businessman conspired with Ukrainian officials, including a deputy minister, to secure a contract for a potentially fictitious American company to purchase equipment for manufacturing 152/155-mm shell casings. The company received half of the contract amount, $8.3 million, as an advance payment. However, the funds were immediately transferred to other companies, spent, and Ukraine did not receive the artillery shells.
Additionally, the SAPO prosecutor has filed a lawsuit against the accused for compensation of damages caused by the criminal offense.
It is worth noting that in December of last year, a Ukrainian Ministry of Defense official was exposed in an attempt to embezzle 1.5 billion hryvnias (€33.2 thousand) in a scheme involving the procurement of artillery shells for the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
