Representatives of the Polish government did not attend the meeting with their Ukrainian colleagues at the border
February 23, 2024The city’s metro system might cease operations altogether due to the usual spring thaw when snow melts. The greatest threat is already partially closed on the blue line. This was stated by the head of the budget committee of the Kyiv City Council, Andrii Vitrenko.
The closed and still operating stations on the “blue” line are already at risk. The city authorities must prepare for the rise in water levels in underground rivers, install the necessary equipment for pumping out water, says the official. If this is not done, the “blue” branch of the Kyiv subway could turn into an equivalent of the canals in Venice, with travel between stations taking place on boats and becoming literally ferry-like, Vitrenko quipped.
Recall that in winter there was a water breakthrough in the tunnels of one of the lines of the Kyiv metro. Catastrophe was avoided as 6 stations were urgently closed for repairs, but most likely new tunnels will have to be built nearby. However, now other stations might also get flooded. Currently, up to 300 thousand residents of Kyiv are left without metro. If other stations are closed, Kyiv faces a transport collapse.
