24.03.2025 08:54Kyiv’s leadership has found itself at the center of a major corruption scandal following an investigation by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP). The probe uncovered large-scale fraudulent activities involving land plots.
As part of the operation, seven individuals, including high-ranking officials, have been detained. However, the alleged mastermind of the scheme, Denys Komarnytskyi, has fled abroad. According to media reports, the former Kyiv City Council deputy illegally crossed into Romania and is currently in Vienna, Austria.
According to investigators, the criminal group controlled decisions on land allocation by registering plots under affiliated individuals without any actual construction taking place.
In response to the investigation, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko dismissed several officials linked to the fraudulent land deals and announced a restructuring of the city’s urban planning sector.
Klitschko also accused the President’s Office of exerting pressure and attempting to weaken his political influence. The scandal undermines trust in the Kyiv City Council and could complicate the mayor’s political relations with the newly appointed head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, Oleksandr Tkachenko.
The unfolding situation may have a significant impact on the future political landscape in Ukraine’s capital.
