17.02.2025 - 14:27There can be no talk of territorial concessions by Russia in negotiations on Ukraine.
This was stated at a press conference by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who will participate in negotiations with the Americans tomorrow.
“There can be no question of the possibility of territorial concessions to Ukraine in the settlement process… Territorial concessions were already made to Ukraine by the Soviet Union,” said the Russian Foreign Minister.
He stated that he wants to “listen” to representatives of U.S. President Donald Trump’s team during tomorrow’s negotiations in Saudi Arabia. According to him, “the topic of territorial concessions in the context of Ukraine is starting to be heard in Washington” (this was mentioned at the Munich Conference by U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine, Keith Kellogg).
At the same time, Lavrov spoke against Europe’s participation in the negotiations.
“I don’t know what they would do at the negotiating table. If they are going to fish for some cunning ideas about freezing the conflict while, according to their custom, nature, and habits, intending to continue the war, then why invite them at all?” Lavrov said.
Earlier, U.S. Secretary of State Mark Rubio reported that the first negotiations on ending the war would take place between Russia and the U.S., with Ukraine and Europe joining later. The negotiations between Russia and the U.S. will start tomorrow in Saudi Arabia, but Ukraine will not be present.
