25.02.2025 11:41French President Emmanuel Macron has endorsed U.S. President Donald Trump’s position that hostilities in Ukraine should first be halted, followed by peace negotiations and the establishment of a security-guaranteed agreement.
He stated this in an interview with Fox News after his discussions with Trump.
“For me, the sequence could be as follows: first, negotiations between the U.S. and Russia, and between the U.S. and Ukraine… Then a ceasefire, which could be achieved in the coming weeks… After that, negotiations on security guarantees, territories, infrastructure… Then a peace agreement,” Macron said.
He suggested that security guarantees could include the deployment of European peacekeeping forces.
Notably, Trump also stated yesterday that a ceasefire could be reached first (within the coming weeks), followed by a peace agreement.
Previously, Trump and his team had emphasized the necessity of holding elections in Ukraine after a ceasefire. The proposed sequence from Washington is: ceasefire → lifting of martial law → elections → signing of a peace agreement.
