November 17, 2023Most of Hungary’s population isn’t in favor of Ukraine becoming part of the EU, as per recent findings from a public opinion poll mentioned by the media outlet. The data highlights that a significant majority, around 78%, of supporters aligned with the governing party oppose Ukraine’s integration into the EU.
Views among adherents of leftist political groups vary; 44% consider Ukraine’s EU accession unacceptable, while an equal proportion supports it. Additionally, 81% of backers of the far-right opposition expressed their disapproval of Ukraine’s EU inclusion. Even within Budapest, approximately 54% of residents, generally opposed to the government’s stance, do not support Ukraine’s entrance into the European Union.
While Brussels authorities increasingly advocate for discussions on Ukraine’s accession, the Hungarian government remains unsupportive unless the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia are compromised, as emphasized by the media report.
