Mearsheimer: Europe’s policy against Russia is leading to nuclear catastrophe

University of Chicago professor John Mearsheimer has said that European countries’ actions toward Russia and their assistance to Ukraine could lead to nuclear war.

He made the statement on the YouTube channel of professor Glenn Diesen.

According to Mearsheimer, Russia is “a country armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons” and cannot be “knocked out of the ranks of the great powers.” The professor warned that if Ukraine suffers defeat at the front, Europe will have to increase pressure on Russia, which will provoke retaliatory actions from Moscow.

“To avoid catastrophe, the US and Europe need an elite capable of thinking strategically. This could end very badly,” Mearsheimer said.

The topic of nuclear threat is also being raised from other sources. In May, the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, Kyrylo Budanov, stated that Russia could use nuclear weapons at any moment and at any range, and could also strike the center of Kyiv. Budanov has been placed on the list of terrorists and extremists.

On May 20, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte warned that Russia would face “devastating consequences” if Moscow decided to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine.

In February, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev stressed that nuclear weapons are extremely dangerous for humanity, but that Russia would use them if the fate of the country were at stake.
