“We are on the brink of nuclear annihilation”: U.S. intelligence chief criticized those escalating military tensions
11.06.2025 - 11:34The head of the Russian delegation at the Istanbul negotiations, Vladimir Medinsky, stated that Russia is prepared for a prolonged war in Ukraine, and that Kyiv’s refusal to make concessions “will only lead to greater territorial losses.”
He made this statement in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
According to Medinsky, an attack on Russian strategic aviation ahead of the last round of Istanbul talks did not dampen Russia’s stance.
“It’s impossible to fight a long war with Russia. Such a war would last 21 years,” Medinsky said, referencing Russia’s historic war with Sweden.
“We don’t want that. We want peace. But if Ukraine continues to act in the interests of others, we will simply be forced to respond,” he added.
He claimed that Moscow wants to end the war because it “deepens divisions” between Ukraine and Russia.
“This is like a conflict between two brothers — one older, one younger — over who is smarter and more important. Unfortunately, this conflict only deepens our divisions, and that’s exactly why we want it to end as soon as possible,” Medinsky said.
Earlier, in an interview with RT America’s Rick Sanchez, Medinsky also claimed that some Russians are demanding the use of an intercontinental ballistic missile named “Oreshnik” against Kyiv and Lviv.
