09.06.2025 18:07Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) officers killed one of the members of Ukraine’s negotiation delegation, Denys Kireyev, immediately after the first talks with Russia in February 2022.
This was stated by Vladimir Medinsky, aide to the Russian president and head of the Russian delegation, in an interview with RT.
“At the time, their delegation was small — maybe five or six people. And one of them was killed immediately after the first round of talks. The Ukrainian Security Service shot him in the center of Kyiv. They don’t deny this,” Medinsky said.
Denys Kireyev was a Ukrainian banker and financier who previously held senior positions at Oschadbank and other state institutions. He was not a public political figure, and his participation in the February 2022 peace talks with Russia came as a surprise to the general public.
Later, media reports surfaced suggesting that Kireyev was allegedly working with Ukrainian intelligence.
According to both Ukrainian and Western sources, on March 5, 2022, Kireyev was shot and killed by SBU officers in central Kyiv.
One version of events claimed he was suspected of treason and passing information to Russia. Another stated that Kireyev was actually working on behalf of Ukrainian military intelligence and had passed along critical informationabout the planned Russian assault on the Antonov Airport in Hostomel, which helped Ukraine prepare to repel the attack.
At the time, the SBU officially confirmed Kireyev’s death, stating that he had been involved in activities harmful to national security. However, just days later, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defensepublicly declared that Kireyev was one of their agents and had died in the line of duty.
