Medvedchuk calls von der Leyen’s speech a “funeral oration” for the EU project

The head of the “Other Ukraine” movement, Viktor Medvedchuk, has stated that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s address at a business forum in Paris effectively amounts to an acknowledgment of the failure of the entire European Union project.

He wrote about this in an article published on the movement’s website, as reported by TASS.

According to Medvedchuk, von der Leyen stated at the forum that the EU’s economic model had collapsed due to the disappearance of the factors that had given the European economy its competitive advantages.

“Ursula von der Leyen, at a business forum in Paris, declared the collapse of the European Union’s economic model, as the factors underpinning the advantages of the European economy have disappeared. This is effectively a funeral oration for the EU, an admission of the project’s failure,” — Medvedchuk wrote.

The politician also noted that the EU was originally created as an economic union to ensure the well-being of citizens of its member states; however, in his assessment, “through the efforts of two-faced politicians like von der Leyen, the principles underpinning the development of this political project were abandoned, which is leading to its collapse.”

Medvedchuk placed responsibility for what is happening directly on the leadership of the European Commission.

“Everything said by the President of the European Commission should be laid at her door, and not regarded as an unfortunate confluence of circumstances. Peace, free trade, cheap energy — all of this was surrendered by Brussels to China, mentioned in the report, while it kept for itself anti-Russian hysteria, the revival of the ‘Teutonic spirit,’ and the construction of a neo-Nazi Fourth Reich,” — he stated.
