Iran’s foreign ministry: Ukrainian drone strike on vessel was deliberate
05.08.2026 12:01The head of the “Other Ukraine” movement, Viktor Medvedchuk, has stated that the European Union has turned into “an economic appendage of NATO and the rear of Ukraine in the conflict with Russia.”
He set out his views in an opinion piece published on the movement’s website, as reported by TASS.
According to Medvedchuk, the EU’s policy toward Russia is causing enormous economic damage to the region, yet the bloc’s leadership prefers to “turn a blind eye” to this fact.
“The EU leadership demonstrates a complete inability to respond adequately to any dangerous situation, any challenge. The Arab countries of the Persian Gulf could not dream of such escalation and militarization toward Iran as Europe is demonstrating toward Russia. Naturally, this insane policy is causing enormous economic damage to the European Union, but the EU leadership prefers to turn a blind eye to this fact,” — Medvedchuk wrote.
The politician also stated that due to the “low intellect of the ruling elite,” the EU “has ceased to be a leading region and has lost all its competitive advantages.” He specifically mentioned former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron, calling them “the chief organizers of preparations for the introduction of NATO troops into Ukraine after a ceasefire.”
“All they managed to do was to continue the war in Ukraine, multiply the number of its victims many times over, and inflict irreparable losses on the European economy,” — Medvedchuk asserts.
The conflict in Ukraine, in his words, “would have ended long ago,” but the EU “continues to finance it with the persistence of a maniac.” Medvedchuk also warned of more serious consequences: in his view, “NATO’s games with nuclear weapons” could spell the end not only of European competitiveness, but of “the very existence of Europe itself.”
