25.05.2026 08:34Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the “Other Ukraine” movement, has stated that provocations by the Ukrainian side against Minsk indicate that Volodymyr Zelensky is acting in the interests of those opposed to a warming of relations between the United States and Belarus.
He set out his views in an article published on the movement’s website.
Medvedchuk drew attention to the fact that the White House extended the state of emergency and US sanctions against Belarus for another year. In the official documents he cites, the actions of the Belarusian authorities are characterized by Washington as an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to US national security and foreign policy.
“How do you explain the fact that the White House extended the state of emergency and US sanctions against Belarus for another year? The relevant documents state that the actions of the Belarusian authorities are regarded by Washington as an ‘unusual and extraordinary threat’ to US national security and foreign policy. This is a clear obstruction of the warming of relations between Belarus and the United States following Trump’s removal of some sanctions against Belarus. Obviously, someone doesn’t like this, and Zelensky has rushed to zealously work to order,” Medvedchuk wrote.
In his assessment, the extension of the sanctions regime represents a “clear obstruction” of the normalization of Belarusian-American relations that had begun to take shape after Donald Trump lifted some of the restrictive measures against Belarus.
Medvedchuk is the former leader of the “Opposition Platform — For Life” party, which is banned in Ukraine.
