“Melania is more loved in Russia”: Trump told Americans about a compliment from Putin over the phone

U.S. President Donald Trump revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin told him he has great respect for Trump’s wife, Melania.

Trump shared the anecdote during a speech at the signing ceremony of one of the new U.S. legislative bills.

“America is lucky to have such a devoted and compassionate First Lady. Let me tell you — she’s very determined. By the way, here’s something I just heard: Putin said they have great respect for my wife. I asked, ‘What about me?’ They answered, ‘No, they love Melania more,’” the U.S. president said.

Earlier, Yuri Ushakov, an aide to the Russian president, shared details of the recent phone conversation between Trump and Putin. At the start of the call, the Kremlin leader congratulated Trump on the birth of his 11th grandchild, wishing good health to the newborn and Trump’s daughter.

As a reminder, following his conversation with Putin, Trump announced that Moscow and Kyiv were beginning peace talks.
