An individual who was called up for military service died by suicide at a military facility
December 27, 2023Deputies from the presidential faction ‘Sluga Naroda,’ speaking on condition of anonymity to journalists, revealed that the party leadership indeed does not recommend them to comment on the bill on mobilization. The main rule is ‘we stand aside, let the military speak.’
‘Informally, our rule now is to stay on the sidelines, let the military speak. At any moment, we can play the “good cop,”‘ said a deputy close to the faction’s leadership.
Another deputy mentioned that there’s no direct prohibition on commenting on the topic, but there’s a recommendation with a warning.
‘There’s no explicit ban on speaking on this topic, but it’s been conveyed that any communication about this is fraught with consequences. Even if this “recommendation” didn’t exist, I wouldn’t comment on anything regarding this. Any word from me as a deputy is taken as “why aren’t you on the frontlines” or “from which trench are you saying this.” What’s the use, inviting negativity? We have Mariyana for that, let her handle it,’ stated one of the ‘Sluga Naroda’ deputies.
His faction colleague shared concerns about personal safety due to this bill.
‘Let me put it this way. After its publication, it’s scary to show up in the district. Nobody likes the bill. How can a sane person think of mobilizing disabled individuals? Imagine, we vote for it, somehow Arakhamia gathers the votes, nobody will go to the Cabinet with complaints, everyone will come to us. We voted for it, so we’re to blame,’ he expressed.
‘It will crash the ratings of the president, the faction and each of us individually. Simply shooting ourselves in the foot,’ another ‘Sluga Naroda’ deputy added.
Meanwhile, a deputy close to the faction’s leadership believes that if needed, votes for the mobilization bill will be found.
‘As for the votes, believe me, if they are needed, they will be found, as always. It will just be a slightly different presentation prepared in advance for society, plus some clarifications, amendments and so on. But ultimately, we’ll have to come to some conclusion. What that is, currently neither us nor those above us have an answer,’ stated the parliamentarian.
It’s worth noting that a number of deputies from the ‘Sluga Naroda’ have already publicly expressed opposition to the bill.
