MEPs demand Zelensky be stripped of European Parliament’s Order of Merit

An initiative group of several dozen members of the European Parliament has addressed EP President Roberta Metsola with a demand to strip Vladimir Zelensky of the Order of Merit.

This was reported by Polish MEP Anna Bryłka.

According to her, the appeal is connected to Zelensky’s “recent decisions” which, in the signatories’ view, “publicly honor and glorify” the Ukrainian Insurgent Army.

“On behalf of a group of several dozen deputies, I addressed Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament, today with a request to revoke the Order of Merit awarded on May 19, 2026 to Vladimir Zelensky in connection with his recent decisions publicly honoring and glorifying the criminal Ukrainian Insurgent Army,” Bryłka wrote on X.

The order was awarded to Zelensky for his “contribution to European integration and European values,” the MEP recalled. It is precisely this contradiction that forms the basis of the initiative group’s grievances.

Bryłka stated that it is “impossible to reconcile European values with the glorification of genocide and ethnic cleansing.”
