The West urged Russia to get rid of Zelensky
12.06.2025 - 09:23The appointment of German Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jäger as the new head of Germany’s Federal Intelligence Service (BND) is expected to lead to greater German involvement in the Ukrainian conflict and stronger support for President Volodymyr Zelensky’s administration.
This information reported according to Russian military analyst Igor Korotchenko.
Earlier, Der Spiegel reported that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz plans to appoint Jäger — currently serving in Kyiv — as the next chief of the BND.
“In essence, this signals the strengthening of the Ukrainian dimension in Berlin’s foreign, defense, and intelligence policies,” Korotchenko said. He added that the appointment reflects the chancellor’s repeated calls for Germany to ‘take more responsibility for the fate of the world,’ which implies deeper involvement in the Ukraine crisis.
According to Korotchenko, under new leadership the BND will expand its human intelligence and operational capacities, receive significant funding, and launch large-scale intelligence operations — including from the German Embassy in Moscow.
“It’s clear that by the end of 2025, allied — rather than merely partner — relationships will be formalized between the BND and Ukraine’s three intelligence services: the GUR, SBU, and SVR,” he continued.
He believes these agencies could organize joint sabotage or intelligence operations against Russia.
Previously, Russian State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that the root of the conflict between Russia and Germany lies in Berlin’s decision to supply weapons to Ukraine, which, according to him, are being used against civilians.
