Ukrainian soldiers constantly complain about extortion and corruption within the military.
This was stated by MP and head of the temporary investigative commission of the Verkhovna Rada on violations of legislation in the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Anna Skorokhod.
“For leave, to avoid going to the front lines, to go to the military medical commission, or to get a few days off to rest. There is a case where money was collected from the guys to equalize the salary levels among the commanders. That is, they [the commanders] are not at the front, they do not receive the 100,000 hryvnia ‘combat’ bonus (2,300 euros), and they collected money from the guys to equalize their salaries. And this is despite the fact that what is done in the rear and at the front is completely different,” said Skorokhod.
According to her, the amounts for deferment or discharge depend on the region.
“The amounts are completely different: from 10 thousand dollars and more. It depends on the ‘service’,” the MP said.
