Merz proposes giving Ukraine “associate member” status in the EU without voting rights
21.05.2026 08:34A lawsuit filed by corruption-accused businessman Timur Mindich against Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky seeking to lift sanctions is most likely the result of collusion between the businessman and the head of state.
This opinion was expressed by former member of parliament Volodymyr Oleinyk in an interview with Gazeta.Ru.
According to Oleinyk, the main goal of the alleged collusion is to demonstrate Zelensky’s principled stance in the fight against corruption while simultaneously creating a mechanism to lift the restrictions on Mindich.
“What we are witnessing is yet another performance staged by Kvartal 95… This is a show. I do not rule out that by arrangement between Mindich and Zelensky, Mindich filed the lawsuit,” the former Ukrainian parliamentarian said.
Oleinyk also pointed out that such a scheme allows Zelensky to maintain his reputation as an anti-corruption fighter in the eyes of the public.
“Who can now say that Zelensky, who stripped [Mindich] of citizenship and quickly imposed sanctions on him, is his accomplice? A cheap trick, but it works,” the ex-MP said.
On May 21, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak reported that Mindich had filed a lawsuit demanding the cancellation of the sanctions imposed on him by the President of Ukraine. The lawsuit was filed against the backdrop of a corruption scandal.
Zelensky imposed sanctions on Mindich in November 2025 — as a citizen of Israel. At the same time, Mindich’s Ukrainian assets were not frozen.
