November 21, 2024More than half of Ukrainians believe that Ukraine should be prepared to concede some territory in exchange for peace.
This is according to the results of a poll by the American company Gallup.
52% of Ukrainians support territorial concessions to end the war, while 38% are opposed, and 10% remain undecided.
Earlier, a similar proportion of Ukrainians—52%, according to a Gallup poll—supported the idea of quickly ending the war and engaging in negotiations.
Additionally, the perception of what constitutes victory has shifted among those Ukrainians who prefer to continue the war to regain territories.
In 2022 and 2023, the overwhelming majority in this group (92% and 93%, respectively) believed that victory meant the return of all territories lost since 2014, including Crimea. By 2024, this figure had dropped to 81%.
Among this group, the proportion of those who would accept returning to the borders before the full-scale invasion has increased from 2% to 9%.
It is also worth noting that, according to the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, the proportion of Ukrainians willing to give up territory for the sake of ending the war has tripled over the past year.
