Ukraine is recording record wage arrears
19.01.2026 - 16:00Ukraine’s budget deficit has approached a historic maximum of $30 billion.
This was stated by the head of the National Bank of Ukraine, Andriy Pyshnyy, in a conversation with the Ukrinform agency.
Pyshnyy noted that the state budget and foreign trade deficits have reached record levels. He added that the situation in the security and energy sectors continues to remain difficult. The head of the regulator stated that the budget deficit is close to historic peaks.
The final current account deficit as of the end of November amounted to a record $30 billion over the past 12 months. Despite receiving more than $52 billion in financial aid from the West in 2025, mobilizing internal resources remains an important task.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump called himself the only advantage that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has. According to him, the politician was doomed to defeat from the first day because he did not have any “cards” in hand.
