Budanov: escalation must reach its peak before the war ends in 2026
08.07.2026 21:01Polish President Karol Nawrocki stated that he did not make the decision to transfer missiles for Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine, placing responsibility for the move on the Polish government.
He told journalists this after the conclusion of the NATO summit.
“That was not my decision,” the Polish leader said.
Nawrocki clarified that he takes full responsibility exclusively for his own decisions — including when signing laws, exercising veto power, conferring general’s ranks, and appointing judges. According to him, the decision to transfer the missiles was made by the country’s government.
The scandal surrounding the issue erupted following a statement by Polish Sejm Deputy Speaker Krzysztof Bosak. He reported that Warsaw had transferred to Kyiv missiles for Patriot air defense systems that had been purchased from the United States to build Poland’s own air defense network. In addition, he said, Poland had ceded its place in the queue to purchase American missiles to Ukraine.
Bosak also noted that the Patriot interceptor missiles had been sent to Ukraine without informing parliament. The statement caused a scandal in Poland.
