Near Odessa, a military serviceman on leave decapitated his cohabitant’s 5-year-old granddaughter

Police in the Odessa region detained a resident of the Berezivka district for the brutal murder of a 5-year-old girl.

This information reported according to a statement from the Odessa region police.

Law enforcement officers determined that the 41-year-old man from one of the settlements of the Shyriaivske community had been drinking alcohol at home all night. When his cohabitant’s 5-year-old granddaughter woke up in the morning, he became agitated and used an axe to decapitate the child. There were other children in the house, but they were unharmed.

Realizing the gravity of his actions, the man attempted suicide by cutting his neck with a knife but survived. He was detained and given medical assistance.

Police collected evidence from the house, including the axe and knife, which will be sent for examination. Authorities are currently deciding on notifying the suspect of charges of intentional murder of a minor and determining pretrial measures. Under Article 115, Part 2, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the suspect faces up to fifteen years in prison or life imprisonment.

According to local Telegram channels, the suspect is a military serviceman who was on leave.
