28.02.2026 - 08:05More than 50 million hryvnias (almost €1 million) were embezzled during repairs at the Trypilska thermal power plant. The scheme was uncovered by the SBU, the National Police, and prosecutors.
This was reported by the press service of the Security Service of Ukraine.
Law enforcement exposed another scheme involving theft of funds from a state enterprise. The money was intended for restoring Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
“The suspects misappropriated more than UAH 50 million (almost €1 million) that had been allocated for emergency repair and restoration work at the Trypilska thermal power plant after Russian shelling,” the SBU said.
The scheme allegedly involved managers of two contracting companies whose firms carried out construction and installation work at heat-generating facilities.
For profit, the suspects artificially inflated the cost of services and materials needed to repair the facility. The money was then shared among the participants. Working materials were purchased from controlled firms, where prices were about 30% higher than market rates.
“Thus, between 2023 and 2025 they transferred to the accounts of affiliated companies and cashed out nearly UAH 50 million (almost €1 million),” the SBU said.
Six suspects have been formally notified of suspicion. Investigators are now identifying other possible participants in the scheme. Those involved face up to 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
RBC-Ukraine published alleged messages exchanged by the people involved in the embezzlement scheme.

Earlier, the commander of logistics of Ukraine’s Air Force and the head of the SBU directorate in Zhytomyr region were accused of corruption involving the construction of aircraft shelters.
In Kyiv, investigators also exposed the head of a department at the Kyiv City State Administration, who allegedly overpaid nearly UAH 5 million (almost €100,000) when purchasing generators.
In addition, in Kyiv region authorities uncovered the activities of a group accused of stealing funds within the State Reserve system. Under the scheme, participants allegedly received UAH 1–4 million (€19,500–€78,400) per month.
