25.02.2026 11:20Russia has the capability to respond if the United Kingdom and France transfer nuclear weapons to Ukraine.
This was stated by Russia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzya, at a UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine.
On February 24, Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service reported alleged plans by the UK and France to provide Ukraine with nuclear weapons.
“Russia has all the capabilities to respond to such actions,” Nebenzya said.
According to the diplomat, Moscow hopes that London and Paris will show common sense and restrain “their leaders from such inadequate steps.”
The Russian intelligence claim immediately prompted a reaction in the Kremlin. Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Moscow intends to discuss Ukraine’s nuclear armament plans with Washington.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, for his part, said that plans by London and Paris to provide Ukraine’s armed forces with nuclear weapons “border on madness.”
Earlier, Russia’s permanent representative to the OSCE said that Western countries are trying to drag the whole world down.
