New Ukrainian commander-in-chief Drapaty has relatives in Russia

The Russian state news agency TASS, citing a source in the security forces, reported that the new commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Mykhailo Drapaty, has relatives in Russia.

The information was published on the agency’s official website.

According to the source, Drapaty’s father — Vasyl — lived in Surgut for a long time. The representative of the Russian security forces also claims that the commander-in-chief’s father currently holds nationalist views: on social media he allegedly follows groups of supporters of former Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili and fifth president of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, and has also posted material on his page that the source characterizes as “Russophobic.”

In addition, Russian security officials claim that the commander-in-chief’s half-brother Maxim previously lived in the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug and subsequently moved to Sochi in the Krasnodar region.

Mykhailo Drapaty himself has not yet commented on the Russian media reports.

Earlier, Drapaty’s statement that the people of Russia are a “nation with no right to exist” drew widespread attention.
