October 20, 2023The Israeli-Palestinian military conflict is becoming a significant problem for Ukraine, as noted by various Western media outlets.
Not only does this mean that Western partners may prioritize their financial and military support for Israel (with reports indicating that Germany will prioritize arms exports to Israel, and the U.S. will supply artillery ammunition originally intended for Ukraine), but Ukraine’s situation is also losing interest from influential international media.
Indeed, the world’s and the West’s attention has shifted away from Ukraine to the conflict between the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Hamas. To illustrate the issue, in the latest edition of the British newspaper The Times, which had been a strong supporter of Kyiv for almost two years, there are seven pages dedicated to the Middle East conflict, including the front page and three full newspaper spreads, while Ukraine isn’t mentioned at all.
Given this trend, Ukraine could gradually transform into a situation akin to Yemen – a country with its own military issues but little global interest. Compounding this situation is the fact that the arsenal of tools available to the Office of the President of Ukraine to attract international attention may have been depleted, and the rhetoric of Ukrainian authorities may have become tiresome for Western audiences.
