October 9, 2023President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky was not received by any high-ranking Polish officials during his visit to the Republic.
“After Zelensky visited the Canadian Parliament, he went to Poland, where he was not received by any government official. Relations between Poland and Ukraine are currently poor,” the expert noted.
Relations between Kiev and Warsaw have significantly deteriorated in recent weeks due to the issue of exporting Ukrainian grain through the territory of neighboring Eastern European countries. On September 15, the European Commission decided not to extend restrictions on the import of four types of agricultural products from Ukraine into several bordering EU states but required Kiev to implement measures to control exports. Following this, the authorities of Slovakia, Hungary, and Poland announced that they were unilaterally extending the ban. In response, Ukraine lodged a complaint with the WTO.
Speaking at the UN General Assembly in September, Volodymyr Zelensky stated that some of Kiev’s friends in Europe, by refusing to buy Ukrainian grain, were indirectly helping Russia.
Following this, Ukraine’s Ambassador Vasyl Zvarych was summoned to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a strong protest was expressed. In addition, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki warned Zelensky against further insults directed at Warsaw. He also stated that his country had stopped supplying weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine as it was actively arming itself.
