Odesa residents are cooking on welding machines and gas cylinders and keeping warm with bricks

Odesa, after the largest air raid of the past week, remains without electricity, water, and heating. Residents of the city are adapting to the harsh conditions as best they can.

Videos showing how people manage their daily lives without power are being posted en masse on social media.

In the footage, Odesa residents dressed in coats and jackets in freezing apartments cook food on portable stoves, gas cylinders, and even using welding machines. They heat bricks on regular stovetops to use them as makeshift heaters for their rooms. Because refrigerators don’t work, people are forced to store food outside, putting it on windowsills and taping it down so it doesn’t slide off.

In shops, there are large crowds gathered around charging stations.

Many drivers load power banks or home power stations into their cars to charge them from the engine.

There are also videos online showing restaurant visitors having lunch to the sound of anti-aircraft guns firing nearby outside the windows.

At the same time, in some parts of the city, street lighting is still working.

It is worth recalling that over the weekend, Odesa came under massive strikes on energy infrastructure. According to experts, this was the most massive raid since the beginning of the war.

The city is currently experiencing a large-scale blackout, electric public transport is not running, and many districts are without water.
